Salty Sailor Mini Ditty Bag FREE sewing pattern
A super freebie bag sewing pattern that is perfect for storing your little bits and pieces. The large flat base allows it to stand up nicely and the flaps open wide to give easy access to what’s inside.
The Salty Sailor Mini Ditty Bag sewing pattern is super lovely and functional! The designer made several (okay, she has over 10 but who’s counting?!) and uses them daily to corral her electronic cords, sewing notions, first aid items, craft supplies, cosmetics and many other things!
Skill level:
This pattern is for the Intermediate Sewist. You’ll need to know how to install magnetic snaps, determine interfacing requirements and sew gussets in a tighter space.

When you have finished making your very own Salty Sailor Mini Ditty Bag it will measure approximately 9 1/4″ wide by 6 3/8″ high by 3 3/8″ deep.

The designer strongly recommends that you use quilting weight cotton for the exterior and lining. Oilcloth and vinyl covered fabric can be used but she recommends sewing in quilting weight cotton for the first time to get familiar with the pattern, specifically the gussets.
What you will need to make a Salty Sailor Mini Ditty Bag:-
- (measurements are approximate and do account for directional and/or fussy cutting),
- 1/3 of a yard or a fat quarter of exterior fabric,
- 1/3 of a yard or a fat quarter of lining fabric,
- 1 yard of 20” wide woven interfacing,
- 1/3 of a yard of fusible foam (or equivalent),
- A piece of Pellon 71F Peltex (or equivalent) 9” by 3”,
- Two sets of thin magnetic snaps – 14mm or 18mm,
- Basic sewing supplies,
- A sewing machine.
