Sewing pattern for the Meraki Backpack

The Meraki Backpack is a medium-sized backpack with a stylish look and practical storage. It’s a perfect companion for outings as it is not too big, yet not too small.

The Meraki Backpck has some fabulous features as follows:-

  • Front Hidden zipper pocket,
  • Interior zipper pocket,
  • Two interior slip pockets,
  • Adjustable back straps.

Skill level:
To make one of these Meraki Backpacks the designer, Bagstock Designs, says that you should be an intermediate sewer who is familiar with sewing patterns.

Sizing info:
When you have finsihed making your very own Meraki Backpack it will measure approximately 11″ wide at the bottom by 12″ high by 4.5″ deep.

Sewing pattern for the Meraki Backpack

What will you need to make a Meraki Backpack:-

  • 1/2 yard of quilting weight exterior fabric,
  • 1/2 yard of contrasting fabric, woven or vinyl,
  • 1-yard of quilting weight lining fabric,
  • 4-yards of fusible woven interfacing – 20” wide (Pellon SF-101 Shapeflex) or 2-yards 45” Woven Fuse,
  • 1-yard of sew-in foam interfacing – 20” wide (Pellon Flex Foam),
  • An 11” by 4.5” piece of fusible stiff stabilizer (Pellon Peltex 71f / Decovil Heavy),
  • A 10” by 11” piece of fusible fleece (Pellon Thermolam Plus TP971),
  • A 2” by 4.5” piece of Décor Bond/Decovil Light (connector stabilizer),
  • One 12” or longer #4.5 / #5 zipper (exterior front zipper),
  • One 10” or longer #3 all-purpose zipper (interior zipper pocket),
  • One twist-lock or magnetic snap (flap),
  • Two magnetic snaps (for sides),
  • Four 1” rectangle rings,
  • Two 1” sliders,
  • Six rivets – size 10mm,
  • Six bag feet (optional),
  • Fray Check,
  • Fabric glue or Double-sided tape,
  • Basic sewing supplies,
  • A sewing machine.
