[UPDATE – we checked this link today and found that the original site and tutorial has been closed down. So disappointing but it happens sometimes when old blogs aren’t maintained. We hope instead you will like one of these alternatives – KINDLE COVERS.]
If you have a Kindle Paperwhite or a nice tablet and you want to make your own holder or cover then here we have a great FREE pattern and tutorial. This tech or tablet cover is both stiff and padded. It’s made from your favorite quilting cottons, backed with a soft fusible fleece, and then stiffened with sheets of plastic canvas. Nice and light, but both strong and padded, to keep your items protected.
This holder was designed to fit a Kindle Paperwhite (6 5/8″ by 4 5/8″) but can be adapted for other tablets/readers. Just measure your device and adjust the dimensions as necessary.
Don’t have a printer? No worries with this pattern because it’s a measure and cut pattern, which means you don’t need to print out (and tape together) paper templates. Just measure, mark, and cut the pattern right there on the fabric. We recommend a quilting ruler, rotary cutter, and Frixion pens (heat erasable fabric markers).
What you will need to make the Kindle or Tablet cover:-
- Two each of fabric and fusible interfacing, one of fusible fleece – 5.5″ by 8.0″,
- Two each of fabric and fusible fleece – 2.5″ by 3.5″,
- One each of outer, lining, fusible interfacing, and fusible fleece – 11.25″ by 8.0″,
- One magnetic snap (or velcro if you prefer, or a KAM snap),
- Two elastic hair bands,
- Two pieces of plastic canvas, each 4.5″ by 7″,
- Scraps of batting and fusible interfacing,
- Basic sewing supplies,
- Sewing machine.
