This is the Yasmota Handbag pdf sewing pattern from the designer Country Cow Designs.

The Yasmota Handbag has the following features:-

  • A slip pocket on the exterior.
  • A zip top closure.
  • Three card slots,
  • One pen holder,
  • A large slip pocket and a zip pocket on the interior,
  • Grab handles and a detachable, adjustable crossbody strap.

Skill level:
This is as an intermediate pattern. The designer recommends you have some bag making experience before making this bag. There are curves and a tricky topstitch.

Sizing information:-
10½” (26.5 cm) tall by 13½” (34 cm) wide by 4¾” (12 cm) deep.

Recommended fabrics:
Cotton, canvas, cork, vinyl or leather. The designer says your chosen fabrics should be suitable for the capabilities of your sewing machine. If you use a basic domestic sewing machine, then she recommends you use cotton or canvas for your first.

What’s needed to make a Yasmota Handbag:-

  • ¾ yard (75 cm) of exterior fabric – cotton, canvas, cork, vinyl or leather (44″/110 cm wide). Measurements account for directional fabrics,
  • ⅓ yard (35 cm) of accent fabric – cotton, canvas, cork, vinyl or leather (44″/110 cm wide),
  • 1 yard (100 cm) of lining fabric – cotton or waterproof canvas (44″/110 cm wide),
  • Medium weight woven interfacing (G700/SF101 or similar) – suitable amount for any cotton fabrics you’re using,
  • 1 yard (100 cm) of ultra firm stabiliser/Peltex (20″/50 cm wide) – if making an all vinyl bag you can substitute for Decovil Light,
  • 25″ (64 cm) No.5 zip tape and two zip pulls,
  • One magnetic snap (for the interior slip pocket),
  • One metal zip end (can be substituted for a small piece of leather and two rivets if preferred),
  • Four bag feet (optional),
  • Two 1″ (2.5 cm) Swivel hooks,
  • One 1″ (2.5 cm) Strap slider,
  • Two 1″ (2.5 cm) D-rings,
  • Twelve rivets (8 mm post is usually suitable but depends on fabrics used),
  • 18″ (46 cm) of 3/16″ (5 mm) Piping cord (for the rolled handles),
  • 60″ (150 cm) of 1″ (2.5 cm) nylon or cotton webbing for the strap,
  • Basic sewing supplies,
  • A sewing machine.

Pattern tester bags:
The designer says that included in the photos are bags made by her pattern testers. Please be aware that some of the testers have made small modifications to their bags. Instructions for these modifications are not included in the pattern. However, if you’d like to keep your handles out of the seam as shown on the bag with leather handles, you can simply cut your handles 3½” shorter than stated in the pattern and place them further up the panel so they’re away from the seam.
