The designer has used lovely vibrant fabrics in the example shown and she says that her design will work well with any medium weight fabrics of your choice. But why go for dark (although practical) colors when you can brighten up your day with a bold statement fabric.
By using interfacing, interlining and a bag base insert, the designer has made her lovely creation very strong and sturdy and yet it still looks fantastic.
When you have finished making your Uptown Luxury Tote Bag it will measure approximately 37cm (14½”) high by 41cm (16”) wide at the top and 31cm (12”) wide at the bottom by 10cm (4”) deep and with a 21cm (8”) handles drop.
What you will need to make the Uptown Luxury Tote Bag
- Five fat quarters (55cm by 50cm) (22” by 20” ) of patterned medium weight cotton
- 1/2 meter (3/4 yard) of plain medium weight cotton for the lining
- 90cm by 120cm (35½” by 47½”) of medium weight iron-on interfacing
- 90cm by 70cm (35½” by 27½”) of heavy weight sew-in interfacing
- Rotary cutter and cutting mat
- Sewing thread
- Sew-on Velcro
- Plastic self-cover button (or ready-made button)
- Basic sewing supplies
- A sewing machine.
