Trinket case zipper bag FREE pattern
|This is a fabulous free sewing pattern for a Trinket case zipper bag. Heidi from Fabric Mutt teamed up with the Fat Quarter Shop and produced this 15-step tutorial for this adorable trinket case!
As the talented designer says – there are so many reasons to love this zipper case. Looking for a way to show off treasured scraps or a mini charm pack of your favorite collection? Want a cute pouch to hold your makeup or art supplies or latest sewing project? Need a last-minute gift for a friend? Then look no further — this case is exactly what you need!
As this case is a boxy shape it will take you a little more time to sew than a typical zipper pouch. However, if you pay close attention to the designer’s step by step tutorial you should be able to sew a case of your own in just a couple of hours. And who hasn’t got a few hours spare particularly when the generous designer has given you her pattern and tutorial free of charge.
Finished size for the trinket case zipper bag pattern
When you have finished making yourself a Trinket Case Zipper Bag it will measure approximately 6″ tall by 8″ wide by 2¾” deep.
Because of the way this bag is sewn, it doesn’t have a separate lining. The panels are all made with the inside and outside matched together and then the edges are neatened with overstitching (zigzag stitch, overlock stitch on a regular machine or with a serger). You can use binding on the edges inside if you prefer, but its probably not really necessary.
What you will need to make one of these Trinket Case Zipper Bags:
- 24 scraps, each at least 2½” by 2½” square, for the patchwork exterior side panel (scraps are optional, you can make this in a solid fabric if you prefer)
- ¼ of a yard of linen fabric for the zipper panel and gusset,
- ½ of a yard of fabric for the rest of the bag,
- Batting,
- Fusible interfacing (ex. Pellon Craft Fuse),
- A piece of leather scrap for the side loops, (optional)
- One coordinating zipper at least 14″ long,
- A 6″ strip of leather lacing for the zipper pull, (optional)
- Basic sewing supplies,
- A sewing machine.
