The Annie Satchel Bag pattern

The “Annie” bag is a compact satchel bag that sits nicely over your arm as this seasons must-have arm candy or is equally at home as a shoulder slung handbag.

As a classic handbag design, you will find this pattern a simple to sew experience that comes with a touch of couture to enable you to finish your sewing project beautifully. The medium-length handle can be shortened to make a classic handbag if you prefer.

The designer recommends that you make the “Annie” bag from a weighty non-fraying 100% wool or wool felt to give a firm and wholesome feel, not to mention an enjoyable home sewing experience.

We think “Annie” as a classic and compact satchel style handbag comes alive by using a vibrant fashion colour palette to complement the season’s look. Primary colours for that spring summer fresh ‘n’ fun look or smart grey, navy and black just right for the office and everyday wear.

Sizing info:
When you have finished making your own “Annie” Bag it will measure approximately 9.84″ (25 cm) wide by 3.54″ (9 cm) deep by 15.75″ (40 cm) high (including handles) or 7.87″ (20 cm) high (excluding handles).

This sewing pattern has been designed for a non-fraying double-faced fabric with good body. The designer used a non-fray coat weight 100% wool fabric.  Using a quality 100% wool felt will give the “Annie” bag good posture and a luxurious life long feel, and one that will last for many seasons (no fraying or selvedges to worry about also!). Wool felt can easily be sewn on a domestic sewing machine with a walking foot or Teflon coated foot.

If your fabric does fray (a little) then don’t worry as this can be considered as part of the look and can look lovely too! (although you may need to finish the seams inside your bag). Alternatively, you might choose to line each of the pattern pieces for a fully lined finish to your handbag.
