We really love the story behind how this bag came about and got its name, inspired by the interesting weave of the fabric used. The designer, Sachiko says:
I was at Joann’s one day and saw some woolen tweed fabric. There is something about the fabric, as I was touching it, I started thinking of what I could make with this… When I held one corner of the fabric sideways, the herringbone pattern on the fabric reminded me of a basket. Then an idea popped in my head to make a “flower basket” inspired bag for the upcoming seasons.
The tutorial covers not only the instructions for making the purse but also lots of different ways you can make felt and fabric flowers for decorating the bag. Well worth a look even if you don’t want to make this purse. But wouldn’t this idea make such a cute purse for a favorite little girl in your life?
What you will need to make the She Carries Flowers Purse:-
- 1/2 yard of wool or wool-like tweed fabric or exterior fabric of your choice
- 1-yard of quilting cotton fabric for the lining
- Fusible fleece to add padding to your lining panels
- Two pieces of 2 1/2″ by 19 1/2″ of thick fusible interfacing
- Matching thread
- One magnet closure
- For flowers on the purse, you will need various fabrics, wools and buttons
- Basic sewing supplies
- Sewing machine.
