Serendipity Wallet sewing pattern (+ video)

This is the Serendipity Wallet pdf sewing pattern from the designer Maple + Sunshine Boutique.

The Serendipity Wallet is a perfectly sized wallet packed with functional features. It has nine card slots, three cash slots, an optional zipper pocket, ID window and snap tab closure to keep everything securely in place.

The designer says her pattern gives you a multitude of creative flexibility with options to use both non-fraying materials such as leather, vinyl or cork for the exterior as well as printed cottons. You will learn techniques that are easy to follow, and be guided through the process using step-by-step instructions including photographs.

Skill level:
The designer rates her sewing project as suitable for advanced beginner to intermediate sewers. She says you should be familiar with general sewing terms, zippers, accuracy, setting rivets/snaps and edge painting. While some of the side seams can be on the thicker side, versions of this pattern can be completed on most home sewing machines.

Sizing info:
When you finish making your very own Serendipity Wallet it will measure approximately 8″ by 4½” by ½”.

Video tutorial available:
Besides producing a written tutorial the designer has also produced a video tutorial of 1-hour and 6-minutes on her YouTube channel that you can watch below.

What’s needed to make the Serendipity Wallet:-

  • One fat quarter of cotton fabric for exterior and ID window backing (you may need slightly more if you have directional fabric or are fussy cutting) OR approx. 1 square foot leather, cork, or vinyl for exterior depending on your exterior choice,
  • One small peice of vinyl, cork, or leather for card slot pockets and tab closure,
  • SF101 woven interfacing or equivalent,
  • Tyvek (available at fabric stores in the interfacing section) for card slots – you can substitute for olyfun or other similar thin, non fraying material if needed. Landscape fabric also works great!
  • ½ yard of Decovil Light,
  • A small piece of clear vinyl for ID window,
  • Edge base coat and paint to match your cork/leather/vinyl, (optional)
  • One magnetic snap rivet or plastic kam snaps (this can be substituted for snap of your choice),
  • Two 8 mm rivets,
  • Basic sewing supplies,
  • A sewing machine.

Optional zipper pocket:-

  • Additional fat quarter,
  • SF101,
  • 7” #3 zipper or 6” of prepared #3 zipper tape – (The designer does not recommend using a #5 zipper here. It will add bulk to the zipper and make it difficult to close).
  • A small piece of Decovil Light.
