Podium Purse sewing pattern
|The Podium Purse is a super trendy cross body or shoulder bag with an adjustable strap. It features the designer’s unique exterior quick access phone pocket which is also great for keys if you don’t have a phone.
Inside the roomy under flap main compartment which closes with a magnetic snap, you will find a zipper pocket, two slip pockets, and a pen pocket.
The large flap is great to feature your favorite fabric or embroidery and add a cute little tassel to complete the picture! Super fun easy weekend project!
The designer, ChrisW Designs, rates their pattern as suitable for an intermediate sewer. When you have finished making your own Podium Purse it will measure approximately 11 ½” (29 cm) wide by 8″ (20 cm) high by 6″ (15 cm) deep.
The pattern includes instructions for both the strap connectors and a rectangular ring alternative method of attaching your strap.
The pattern for The Podium has twenty-seven pages of instructions which include eighty-two step-by-step color photos. There are printing instructions and test squares to check the scale. For rectangular pattern pieces, both Pattern pieces and cutting measurements are included so you can choose your favorite cutting method!
What you will need to make the Podium Purse:-
- 30″ (76 cm) of 44″ (112 cm) wide exterior fabric,
- ½ a yard (45 cm) of 44″ (112 cm) accent fabric, like cork, vinyl, or fabric,
- 5″ (2.5 cm) by 5″ (2.5 cm) of cork or vinyl, for a tassel or tassel loop (optional),
- 20″ (50 cm) of 44″ (112 cm) wide lining fabric,
- 1½ yards (1.5 meters) of 45″ (114 cm) Fusible Woven Interfacing: Wovenfuse. Substitutes are 4 yards (3 meters) of 20″ (51 cm) Pellon Shape-Flex SF101. Vilene G700, Therm-o-web HeatnBond or DHJ501,
- 42″ (107 cm) by 10″ (26 cm) of Soft & Stable, or Pellon Flex Foam, or Headliner,
- 11″ (28 cm) wide by 6″ (15 cm) high Peltex 71F or Decovil 1 or Fast2Fuse or TimTex,
- 12″ (30 cm) by 11″ (28 cm) of Fusible Fleece – Thermolam Plus TP971F or Vilene 640H,
- 8″ (20 cm) by 2″ (5 cm) template plastic. Possible substitutes are any rigid plastic such as plastic containers or lids,
- One 11″ (28 cm) dress zipper for the interior zipper pocket,
- One ¾” (18 mm) regular magnetic snap,
- Two ¾” (20 mm) strap anchors (edge), or two 1″ (2.5 cm) rectangular rings,
- One slider in the same size as your above choice of strap connection hardware,
- One ½” D-ring, optional for the tassel,
- One tassel cap, optional for the tassel,
- Seven double capped rivets, 9mm (cap) by 8mm (stem), or, eleven for rectangular rings,
- Twenty-six double capped rivets, 8mm by 6mm (stem) for the bottom trim decoration – optional (or metallic hot fix studs are a great alternative). Note – you can try Chicago Screws as a substitute if rivets scare you!
- Basic sewing supplies,
- A sewing machine.
The designer has also included a text-only version (seven pages) of the instructions which comes bundled with your pattern for printing purposes, should you not need or wish to print all of the photos! Simply refer to your electronic versions for photos if needed! Saves on ink!
