Pixie Kit sewing pattern (2 sizes)

This is the Pixie Kit pdf sewing pattern from the designer Rosie Taylor Crafts.

With two different versions to choose from, this useful little sewing kit is perfect for keeping all your sewing essentials handy when you’re away from home. It has a pincushion, pocket, needle keeper and a place to store your reels of thread. For crafting on the go!

Sew the exterior in a single fabric to keep it simple, or pick out all of your fabric scraps and create a pretty patchwork exterior. Instuctions are included for both.

Skill level:
The designer rates her sewing project as suitable for intermediate sewers. Being able to apply bias binding would be useful but not essential as the designer provides detailed instructions on this.

Sizing info:
When you finish making each of Rosie Pixie Kits they will measure approximately:
-> Small = 5” by 4” folded and 9½” by 5” unfolded.
-> Large = 5½” by 4½” folded and 12” by 5½” unfolded.

What’s needed to make a Pixie Kit :-

  • Three different cotton fabric prints for the exterior and pincushion (two different prints and twenty scraps of printed cotton for patchwork version),
  • Complementary or matching cotton fabric print for the pocket,
  • Pocket binding: Plain or contrasting cotton fabric print,
  • Bias binding/tape: Plain or contrasting cotton fabric print, this is cut diagonally across fabric at 45 degrees (strips of fabric can be joined),
  • Linen or cotton for the lining, pocket lining and pincushion base,
  • Stuffing: For the pincushion. The designer used pure wool as it doesn’t blunt your pins but you can use a polyester fibrefill,
  • Felt for the needle keeper,
  • Elastic for the thread reel and pincushion holder. The designer used ¼” width,
  • Interfacing for the lining and pocket. The designer used a medium weight fusible interfacing (woven or non-woven),
  • Closures: A small piece of Velcro or a snap fastener (either plastic or metal), 7” or longer nylon zip for larger version,
  • Basic sewing supplies,
  • A sewing machine.
