Paris Crossbody Bag Sewing Pattern

All posts may contain affiliate links.

Crossbody bags are all the rage right now everyone is wearing them with athleisure outfits, while travelling, and walking the dog. These are a grown up and sophisticated version of the bum bag and worn across the front (or back) of the body.

They fit everything from your lip balm to your kindle, so you never have to be stuck without your essentials again.

The Paris is a slimline version with a narrow, tapered gusset to give you just enough room to carry everything you need (and not tempt you to put too much in) and it’s still thin enough to wear under your jacket.

Sizing info:
9½” wide by 6½” tall by 1½” deep.

Suggested Fabrics:
Quilting weight cotton, denim, canvas, furnishing fabrics, linen, needle cord, waxed cotton, oilcloth.

What’s needed to make a Paris Crossbody Bag:-

  • ½ yard thin to medium weight canvas fabric for the exterior,
  • ½ yard pure cotton fabric for the lining,
  • Fat Quarter dry oilskin for the flap,
  • 25″ Style-vil foam interfacing (Vlieseline) alternatively, By Annie’s Soft & Stable Fat Quarter G740 fusible interfacing (Vlieseline) or Pellon 860F Ultra Weft. TIP – G740 is a whisper thin fusible woven interfacing about the same weight and texture as cheesecloth. It adds just enough structure to the canvas for a make like this,
  • One 5½” (#5) zipper for the front zipper pocket,
  • One 7″ (#5) zipper for the rear zipper box pocket,
  • One 7″ (#3) zipper for the inner zipper box pocket,
  • TIP – all of the designer’s outer zips are metal and non-divisible. If you are using continuous zippers (from the roll) allow an extra inch when cutting to allow for the end tapes,
  • To make the adjustable strap – two 1½” rectangle rings, and one 1½” bagslider. TIP – you can also use a ready-made strap and in this case, sub the rectangle rings for D rings because these straps usually come with swivel clips and are detachable,
  • One 1¼” metal twist lock,
  • 1½ yards – 2½ yards (depending on the size of the wearer) 1½” wide cotton webbing for the strap,
  • 7″ wide by 4″ long thin leather or vegan leather for the strap tip, rectangle ring tabs and the zipper pull decorations,
  • Basic sewing supplies,
  • A sewing machine.
