Off To Market Bag free sewing pattern

Every Thursday is Free Bag Pattern Day on the site, so today we are sharing with you the free pattern for the Off To Market Bag pattern. We really love this designer sewcando.com because she gives us all so many quality free patterns.

The designer describes her bag as:

a chic bag that is simple to make with all the details of a high-end boutique item.

The Off To Market Bag has the following features:-

  • It’s fully lined.
  • It has stylish wooden handles.
  • It has a magnetic closure.
  • It’s big enough for shopping but also chic enough to use as a purse.

In the example the designer made she used a PUL backed cotton fabric, which means it’s also waterproof. What a great idea for a purse – doesn’t get wet when it rains, and so easy to clean. Just a wipe with a damp cloth and it’s like new.

Look for some pretty options for PUL fabrics here on Etsy.

She mentions that it had the soft finish of regular cotton but with a little more body thanks to the thin polyurethane layer on the back. She says it was a dream to sew with and worked great with the Ultra Firm stabilizer to give the bag a sturdy, yet curved shape.

What you will need to make the Off To Market Bag:-

  • ½ yard of fabric for the exterior,
  • ½ yard of cotton lining fabric,
  • 1 yard of Pellon® 70 Peltex® Ultra-Firm Sew-In,
  • ½ yard of Pellon® 810 Tru-Grid™,
  • ¼ yard of Pellon® 809 Décor-Bond®,
  • A pair of wooden purse handles,
  • One magnetic purse clasp,
  • Basic sewing supplies,
  • A sewing machine.
