Memory Lane Quilted Tote Bag FREE sewing pattern
|This is the Memory Lane Quilted Tote Bag FREE sewing pattern from the designer I Always Pick The Thimble.
The name “Memory Lane” comes from an association the designer has with fabric, similar to one she has with music. When you hear an old song do you sometimes remember a place or a feeling you had when you first listened to that song? It works the same for her with fabric. When she digs through her fabric stash, it takes her through the memories of each of those fabrics and the projects she’s made with them.
The open and roomy tote has an optional interior divider pocket which features two open pockets, two pen slots, and a 7″ zipper pocket.
The tote is quilted and then folded in half for a sturdy, yet simple construction.
Cotton belting is used for the handles and as trim on the interior pocket divider and top edge of the bag.
You will need:
One jelly roll was used for the outside of this tote, with enough leftover fabric to make an 18″ by 18″ pillow top.
Skill level:
The designer rates the sewing level of difficulty as between intermediate to advanced. The actual sewing of the bag is relatively simple. (But you may go through a couple of sewing machine needles.) The biggest challenge is quilting the outside of the tote over and through the french seams. This is of course an optional step and you could leave the design unquilted if you prefer.
Also included in this pattern are the instructions for the “Strip Quilt Tote.” The construction of the overall tote is the same as the Memory Lane Tote, however, in this version, the tote is shown without bottom corner pleats.
So the designer goes on to say that what you will get is a not-so-great quality downloadable PDF with full instructions. Why? Well, because she did not heed the advice of many smart people when they said back up your computer frequently. The original files she used to create the document were lost, but she still has the original printed pattern. She describes the quality as not great. But hey, it’s free. We checked it out and thought it was absolutely fine!
