|The Beachcomber Tote & Handbag are beautiful, classy and spacious bags! We think you’ll love this sewing pattern. They feature two exterior slip pockets, an interior slip pocket and a large zipper pocket. And everything is secure with a recessed zipper panel. This DIY tote bag purse is a real head-turner.
Whether you pick the smaller handbag-sized or the large tote bag you’ll not be disappointed with these smart bags from the Beachcomber range. Why not sew one of each size so you have the perfect bag for every occasion!
The designer shares her fabulous technique of creating the recessed zipper panels so they come out perfect every time! We love patterns where you get the chance to learn a new skill or try something in a slightly different way to get the perfect results.
Skill level:
The designer ranks this project as suitable for an intermediate sewer. You’ll need to know how to sew a gusset on a bag and determine interfacing requirements.
Sizing info:
When you have made your very own Beachcomber Tote and Handbag they will measure approximately:-
- Tote Bag – 16 1/2″ wide by 14 1/2″ high by 4″ deep.
- Handbag – 13″ wide by 11″ high by 3 1/2″ deep.
Recommended fabrics for this bag:
For the fabrics, the designer strongly recommends using quilt weight cotton for the exterior and lining. Oilcloth and vinyl fabrics may be used but she recommends sewing in quilting weight cotton the first time to get familiar with the pattern, specifically the gussets.
When you purchase the pattern it includes the following:-
- All pattern pieces,
- A cutting list (to use instead of the rectangular pattern pieces – to save the trees!),
- Labels for cut fabric,
- Colorful and clear diagrams for most steps,
- A small Notes section on each page.
