The Wanderlust Tote Bag sewing pattern and video
The Wanderlust Tote Bag is designed to be quick and fun to sew. It’s a great bag for everyday use and is designed to fit an MS Surface sized laptop. It has “hidden” handle ends, a front zip pocket and triple slip pocket inside. It also has a unique hourglass shape and can be constructed in two ways: slouchy or sturdy.
This sewing project is suitable for confident beginners and requires very little hardware. The pattern uses some unique techniques, giving you the opportunity to learn new skills.

When you have finished making yourself a Wanderlust Tote Bag it will measure approximately 16″ tall by 11″ wide by 3″ deep.
What you will need to make The Wanderlust Tote Bag:-
- 18″ (0.5m) of exterior fabric (canvas/waxed cotton/fabric weight 7oz-200gsm+),
- 15″ (0.4m) of contrast fabric (quilting weight cotton),
- 22” (0.6m) of lining fabric (quilting weight cotton),
- 44” (1.1m) of medium woven interfacing (Vilene G700/Pellon SF101),
- 11″ (0.3m) of medium non-woven interfacing,
- 14″ by 3″ of sew-in foam stabiliser (Bosal/Style Vil/Soft & Stable),
- Optional for a sturdier finish – 16″ by 35″ of medium loft fleece (Vilene H640/Legacy L987F/Pellon 987F),
- One 16″ no.5 zip (match to exterior/contrast fabric),
- One magnetic snap,
- Basic sewing supplies,
- A sewing machine.
- Note – Fabric supply measurements are based on 44″ wide fabric & 35″ wide interfacing. The measurements are suitable for directional fabrics.
