You can make this modern hobo-style handbag – The September Blue – using a fat quarter bundle. The use of pieced panels allows you to show off coordinating prints at their best.
For a professional finish, a twist/turn lock is used for the closure. The bag also has a nice long shoulder strap, so it can be worn cross-body if you wish. The finished size of the bag is approximately 10 1/4” by 13 3/8”.
The yardage is based on 44” fabric width and 35.5” Vilene interfacing width. If you decide to use 20” width interfacing, like Pellon, you’ll need double the amount stated.

What you will need to make the September Blue Hobo Bag Purse:-
- Five fat quarters in coordinating cotton prints, or quilting cotton yardage,
- 1-1/8 yard medium-weight woven fusible interfacing – Vilene G700. Double this amount is required if using Pellon SF101, or any other 20″ width, so get 2 ¼ yards.,
- One 1-¼” round metal twist/turn lock or similar size – see our resources page for our recommended hardware suppliers,
- Scraps of fusible fleece for lock reinforcement,
- Basic sewing supplies,
- Sewing machine
