Pleated Tote Purse FREE sewing pattern & tutorial
|Adding some easy pleating to a Tote Bag really gives it some character. Here is a FREE pattern and tutorial for a simple pleated tote purse. This is a great simple starter bag pattern. Sew it as-is, or add in your own extras and options such as an adjustable shoulder strap, pockets, a magnetic snap closure.
Size it up and use it as a really big grocery tote or a beach bag or for carrying around all the stuff for the kids. Or size it down and make it as a cute purse for a little girl.
Some of our readers have reported that finding the pattern download isn’t so easy for this one. To get the pattern and tutorial you must click on the picture on page one of the tutorial on the Long Thread website. Or to make it easier, we’ve added a button below which directs you straight to the download.
You have to cut your fabric according to the dimensions given on the images, so grab yourself a quilting ruler and rotary cutter to make the job easier. (Or draw up the directions onto paper first if you prefer to use a paper pattern.)
What you will need to make the Pleated Tote Purse:-
- 1 yard of quilting cotton or a light linen fabric,
- 1 yard of fusible fleece (if using a quilting cotton we also suggest adding ShapeFlex 101 to get a really nice finish),
- 1/2 yard of cotton fabric for the lining,
- Any optional extras for pockets or hardware you might want to use,
- Matching thread,
- Basic sewing supplies,
- Sewing machine.
