Patchwork Fabric Tote Bag (with sew-in fleece) FREE sewing tutorial
|This is the Patchwork Fabric Tote Bag (with sew-in fleece) FREE sewing tutorial from the Thermoweb blog.
For this Patchwork Fabric Tote Bag, the designer who designed this project is super experienced. She has made at least one hundred of this style of Tote Bag. That is an incredible number of Tote Bags but she does love her patchwork. She loves cutting out the squares and she loves quilting. This Tote Bag really does have it all.
Sew In Fleece has been used in this bag, but you can simply use fusible fleece, or even some pieces of quilt batting. Whatever you have on hand that is lofty will work to add stability to this tote bag, and give you that lovely padded feel when you quilt it.
And don’t be intimidated by the word quilting. If you can sew a straight line, that is all that is needed. Even if you can’t sew a straight line, then you can quilt your bag with deliberately wiggy lines and no one will ever know! Shh, its our little secret. (Look on your sewing machine for a serpentine stitch and put it on the maximum setting – that makes lovely regular wavy lines for quilting.)
What’s needed to make a Patchwork Fabric Tote Bag:
- Fifty 3.5” 100% cotton fabric squares,
- ½ yard of StitchnSew Sew-in Fleece – or fusible fleece or quilt batting,
- SprayNbond basting spray adhesive,
- ½ yard of canvas or another medium to heavyweight woven fabric for the lining,
- 1” or 1.5” wide webbing (two 20” pieces),
- Basic sewing supplies,
- A sewing machine.
The seam allowance is ¼” unless otherwise stated.
