This bag is big enough for all your essentials which makes it a great everyday bag!
Elsie has a zip-top closure for keeping contents secure, three handy pockets, and an adjustable crossbody strap.
The three handy pockets include two exterior pockets (one slip and one zippered) together with one interior slip pocket.

When you have finished making your very own Elsie Crossbody Bag it will measure approximately 8″ wide at the base by 9¾” tall by 3″ deep.

The designer rates her pattern as suitable for an advanced beginner sewer.
Materials needed:
And she suggests you use the following fabrics for this project – canvas, denim, or similar for the exterior (up to 9 oz). For the accent fabric and the lining, you should use quilting weight cotton. The maximum strap length not including the swivel hooks is about 48.” If you would like to lengthen the strap pieces, the designer says you should adjust the accent fabric requirement to ½ a yard.
The pattern – print or cut with measurements:
When you make this pattern the designer has given you two options. You can print all pattern pieces on a home printer on Letter or A4 size paper. Or you can cut the fabric with a rotary cutter, gridded ruler, and cutting mat using the provided measurements.
What’s needed to make an Elsie Crossbody Bag:
- ⅜ of a yard of exterior fabric that is 44” wide,
- ⅜ of a yard of accent Fabric that is 44” wide,
- ½ a yard of lining fabric that is 44” wide,
- 1⅛ of a yard of fusible woven interfacing that is 20″ wide (Pellon SF101 or similar),
- One 6” zipper (1” zipper tape width),
- One 10” zipper,
- Two 1” wide D-Rings,
- One 1” wide rectangle strap slider,
- Two 1” wide swivel hooks,
- Cutting mat & rotary cutter if you are using the measure and cut method,
- Four rivets for securing the strap (optional),
- 10” of ⅛” wide leather lace to make two zipper pulls (optional),
- Basic sewing supplies,
- A sewing machine.
