Divina Tote & Handbag sewing pattern

This is the Divina Tote & Handbag sewing pattern. Divina is a classic bag design that everyone should have in their wardrobe.

There are two sizes included in the pattern. The Handbag size is ideal for daily use and the Tote size is perfect as a laptop bag, diaper bag, or travel bag. Or just for those of you who carry everything with you – you know who you are!

This designer, Bagstock Designs, makes absolutely fantastic bag sewing patterns and always takes excellent photographs so we can all see these bags at their best.

Each of the two styles/sizes of bags has similar great features, which you can see below:-

  • Two exterior zipper pockets,
  • One interior zipper pocket,
  • Two interior pen pockets,
  • Two interior slip pockets,
  • A zip-top closure to keep the bag’s contents secure.

As an extra feature, the Handbag also has an adjustable shoulder strap.

Skill level:
The designer rates her Divina Tote & Handbag sewing pattern as suitable for an intermediate sewer. She says you will need to have basic sewing skills and should be familiar with sewing patterns.

When you have finished making the Divina Tote & Handbag they will measure approximately:-

  • Tote = 16″ wide by 13″ high by 4.5″ deep.
  • Handbag = 13″ wide by 10.5″ high by 3.75″ deep.

Materials needed to make the Tote size Divina:-

• 1/2 a yard of quilting weight exterior fabric,
• 1/2 a yard of contrasting fabric, woven or vinyl,
• 1 1/4 yards of quilting weight lining fabric,
• 3 1/2 yards of fusible woven interfacing – 20” wide (Pellon SF-101 shape flex) or 2 yards of 45” wovenfuse,
• 1 1/2 yards of sew-in foam interfacing – 20” wide (Pellon flex foam),
• A 8” by 4.5” piece of fusible stiff stabilizer (Pellon peltex 71f / decovil heavy),
• Two 9” or longer #4.5 handbag zippers (exterior front zipper pockets),
• One 10” or longer (12” or longer, if using continuous zipper) #3 all-purpose zipper (interior zipper pocket),
• One 20” or longer #4.5 handbag zipper (main zipper closure),
• One zipper end,
• Rivets – size 9mm,
• Six bag feet (optional).

• 1/4 of a yard of quilting weight exterior fabric,
• 1/2 a yard of contrasting fabric, woven or vinyl,
• 1-yard of quilting weight lining fabric,
• 2 1/4 yards of fusible woven interfacing – 20” wide (Pellon SF-101 shape flex) or 1 1/2 yards 45” wovenfuse,
• 1-yard of sew-in foam interfacing – 20” wide (Pellon flex foam),
• A 7” by 3.75” piece of fusible stiff stabilizer (Pellon peltex 71f / decovil heavy),
• Two 8” or longer #4.5 handbag zippers (exterior front zipper pockets),
• One 9” or longer (11” or longer, if using continuous zipper) #3 all-purpose zipper (interior zipper pocket),
• One 16” or longer #4.5 handbag zipper (main zipper closure),
• Two 1” D-rings (only if doing adjustable shoulder strap),
• Two 1” swivel hooks (only if doing adjustable shoulder strap),
• One 1″ slider (only if doing adjustable shoulder strap),
• One zipper end,
• Rivets – size 9mm,
• Four bag feet (optional).
