Cottage Hip Bag sewing pattern (with video)
|This little bag holds a lot! Perfect for a hike or trip to an amusement park, it can be worn as a hip bag (fanny pack) or as a sling bag. Instructions include a short video clip from the designer on how to make it into a crossbody bag as well! Straps can be made to size so it is a perfect bag for any age or gender.
This pattern is suitable for either domestic or industrial machines, and all types of fabrics. You just need to be mindful of what your machine can handle and keep any interfacing out of the seam allowances. The designer’s testers made everything from quilting cotton to waterproof canvas to leather and sequins for a cool 80’s vibe.
The exterior has a slip pocket on the back for secure but easy access to up to a large smartphone. The flap can be secured with a magnetic snap or turn lock so you can feature some beautiful or fun hardware. The interior includes a zippered divider pocket and card slots on the side of two roomy pockets so you can separate your keys from your sunglasses.
You are going to have fun making this one. It is a very quick sew and would be great to sew and sell at markets.
Sew Modern Tip – check out the first couple of minutes of the video tutorial for this one. We think this bag is great as a waist bag, but with all those pockets and features, switch out the waist straps for a shoulder or adjustable crossbody strap and you get a great everyday small purse too.
