Sometimes it’s lovely to curl up with a good book and a cup of cocoa. Put on some comfy PJs, some thick warm socks, set the lights on low, and immerse yourself in a great story. And what’s even better? Imagine the same scenario but exchange that fantasy or romance for a darned good book about how to sew bags! What could be more perfect?

Ok, perhaps that’s a slight exaggeration about the thrill of books about sewing, but we still think their value shouldn’t be under-rated. While you can learn through trial and error, through experience, and from reading some of the great bag sewing blogs and websites, you simply can’t beat a good book.

An author has the time and space in a book to pour out all of their knowledge and experience in one place. That book might have been planned and written over the course of months, or even years. It’s an opportunity to read the very best bag-making content, learn all the tips and tricks you might not otherwise have found, and try out some interesting new patterns and designs.

We’ve put together a list of some awesome books about bag-making techniques, hardware, vintage bag design, pattern drafting, and lots more. We can’t claim to have read all these great books, but you’ll be sure to find some topics in this list that will inspire you to create something new, or learn a new skill. There are Kindle books you can read online or on your Kindle or cell phone, plus hardcopy books that are easy to flick through and might even contain zippers or sample hardware to get you started on some of the enclosed projects. Look out for bag sewing patterns galore!
