Shabby Chic Ruffled Tote Bag FREE sewing pattern & tutorial
|Here’s a great FREE pattern and tutorial where you take a ready-made basic canvas tote bag and you add ruffles and whatever embellishments you wish to add. Of course, you can make the base bag too, but if you already have a simple tote bag and think it needs a bit more excitement, then this is a simple way to use up some fabric scraps and make an otherwise boring bag a bit special.
It’s a relatively easy project to work on and you could make lots of them in a short space of time. If you like the shabby chic look, leave the edges raw and unfinished. If you like a neater finish then you can serge, or turn over and sew the lower edges to prevent that fraying. Or maybe just pick fabrics that don’t fray.
What you will need to make the Shabby Chic Ruffled Tote Bag:-
- One canvas tote bag. You can also buy these in economy packs if you want to make a lot to sell or for craft shows etc,
- Four 4″ strips of fabric. You can use a quilting cotton but a medium weight home decorator fabric seems to hold up better,
- Any embellishments you wish to add – buttons look cute,
- Jean sewing machine needle – depending on the fabrics you choose,
- Basic sewing supplies,
- Sewing machine.
