Here’s a way to take the ancient art of smocking and bring it bang up to date with a modern look in this large smocked bag from Debbie Shore. In her video (below) Debbie shows you how to take a large piece of fabric, mark it, smock it by hand and then use the smocked fabric to create this beautiful bag.
You can add embellishments like the tiny buttons on the smocked elements.
Does take a little extra time and care because of the hand sewing needed to create the smocking and the careful pressing needed to smooth out the little shapes but it’s certainly something you don’t see everyday, and well worth that extra effort to get something so unusual.
