Finn Sling Bag Sewing Pattern
Introducing the amazing new Finn Sling Bag Pattern, already a much-loved, tried and tested pattern in our exciting collection of bag designs! This latest addition to our convertible sling bag range.
This cute and highly original bag can be made as a sling bag, with a single crossbody strap, OR as a mini Backpack with a double strap option! It’s large enough to carry all your essentials, including an average-size water bottle (up to 10.5″ x 3″) that will fit inside AND be kept upright when you’re on the go! You can also fit a glasses case and some smaller items too – a wallet, make-up, doggy bags, etc., in the main compartment. The front zipper pocket will take a passport or regular-size phone, and the back pocket will take a small wallet or keys.
The pattern comes with neat Add On instructions for making a cute little Card Case that holds 6 cards and fastens with a security attachment to the inside of the pocket. Pack it up, sling it on, and you’re good to go! The Finn Sling Bag is fully lined with no exposed seams inside, with just a little seam binding required around the base seam.
The design includes an adjustable strap so you can alter the length to suit your preference. It also includes instructions for adding a second connector and strap so that you can wear it as a backpack. The pattern ALSO includes instructions for a neat little card case that fits in the back zipper pocket, allowing you to leave your wallet at home and travel light.
The pattern includes a very detailed instructions booklet with color photos throughout, and a second file with full-scale templates that print on A4 or US Letter paper – no adjustments required (A1 printshop file available on request).
SKILL LEVEL:
INTERMEDIATE: ideally you’ll have made some bags and have experience sewing curves, working with zippers, and stitching multiple layers of fabric. The instructions comprise a very detailed photo tutorial that guides you through every step of the process, with color photos illustrating each step along the way.

Exterior Fabric- ½ yd
Lining Fabric – ¾ yd
Interfacing Vilene G700 (36” wide)- ¾ yd**
OR Pellon Shapeflex SF101 (20” )- 1 yd**
1 x piece of Fusible Foam (for Base)- 9” x 5”
3 x #5 regular zippers- 10”, 7” and 6”.
OR #5 Zipper tape by the yard – ¾ yd – (3 pieces – 7 ½”, 8½”, and 11”), plus 3 zipper pulls
Double-fold Bias Binding Tape ¾” (or 1”) – ¾ yd.
1” webbing tape or leather strap- 36” for sling strap/ 72” for backpack straps x 2.**
