The designer describes her project as a fun new Purse Tutorial that makes a cute bag that is super easy to put together and is accented with leather (or vinyl) trim and great pockets all the way around the bag! It’s her Easy DIY Pocket Tote!
It’s been designed to be plenty big enough to hold everything you need – wallet, keys, phone – even maybe a small tablet or diaper kit! All of those outside pockets make it easy to stay organized and keep all the things you need to grab right there at hand.
This pattern is a measure and cut pattern, where you cut your fabric pieces from the measurements given using a quilting ruler and rotary cutter, so if you don’t have a printer at home, no worries!

It’s the perfect project for a beginner through to an advanced sewist.
What’s needed to make an Easy DIY Pocket Tote Bag:
- 1 yard of fabric for the outside,
- 2/3 yard of lining fabric,
- 2/3 yard of medium weight interfacing (use heavier weight interfacing if you’re using light weight fabric for the outside of the bag and want to make it nice and sturdy),
- Two D Rings,
- Some scraps for the leather/vinyl trim,
- One magnetic snap,
- Basic sewing supplies,
- A sewing machine.
All seam allowances are 1/2″ unless stated otherwise.
