Camille Bag sewing pattern
|This is the Camille Bag pdf sewing pattern from the designer Georgia Girl Stitches.
This professional looking tote bag is fully lined with a top zipper closure, two front exterior pockets, and three interior slip pockets. The instructions are written specifically for leather handles, and either a leather or cotton webbing adjustable strap – but of course you can add fabric straps if that is your choice too.
We think this bag would look great in a canvas, oil cloth or waxed canvas fabric, combined with accents in leather or vinyl.
Skill level:
The designer rates her sewing project as suitable for an advanced beginner sewer. Despite the stylish finished result, it’s a beginner-level project, but it does require knowledge of setting rivets and installing a zipper.
Sizing info:
When you have finished making a Camille Bag it will measure approximately 11″ wide at the base by 10.5″ high by 4″ deep.
The Camille Bag example has leather handles and a crossbody strap. The designer recommends for the handles if you are using real leather that it is at least 4-5oz (1.6 mm to 2 mm ) thickness for strength.
The designer says that if you choose to use leather for the bottom of your Camille, you will need to understand the correct weight and temper needed for this pattern. If using thick or firm leather, you will likely need to skive the edges in several areas, but note that skiving is not covered in this pattern. She recommends that you use a lighter-weight leather that is not too terribly firm if sewing on a domestic machine.
Using real leather is only an option for this pattern, vinyl or other non-fraying edge fabrics such as cork can be used for the accents, and regular fabrics for the body of the bag.
With regards to the crossbody strap if you choose to make it out of cotton webbing then the designer recommends that you use one that isn’t too soft and thin. The designer used medium heavy weight cotton webbing.
And finally the designer points out that this is a MEASURE AND CUT pattern written with imperial (US) measurements. It is important to note that the file does NOT include printable pattern pieces or templates – perfect if you don’t have a printer at home. You will receive one 15-page file that includes helpful notes, a materials list, measure and cut instructions, step-by-step instructions on how to make the bag, numerous photos, and a final page with labels that can be used for organizing your fabric pieces as they are cut.
