Calypso Tote Bag FREE sewing pattern

Here’s the Calypso Tote Bag FREE sewing pattern, which is a citrus-inspired tote tutorial.

It’s an easy tutorial designed to give a different look to the most basic eas-to-sew beginners tote bag. The designer, Bethany from Sweet Bee Buzzings, loves to sew, and she particularly likes to sew bags. That’s because they’re generally quick to sew, usually easy, can be customized infinitely, and, most importantly, don’t have to fit.

The Calypso Tote Bag is a basic tote where the lining comes over to the exterior to provide some nice contrast and a bit of a faux cuff look.

This bag is a bit different from your basic tote but is quite easy to stitch up. The designer made it in a morning, and that included math, cutting, sewing, and photographs. The math will be pretty obvious as you cut so you can adapt it to make it in any size you’d like.

What you will need to make a Calypso Tote Bag:-

  • For this project, the designer used two prints. You’ll need a half yard for the exterior and about a yard for the lining and straps (you’ll have a little leftover of both),
  • 2/3 yard of fusible fleece, like Thermolam Plus Fusible. It gives really nice structure to a bag while staying soft and playing nicely with that quilted look.
  • Basic sewing supplies,
  • A sewing machine.

Some other comments from the designer are she used a 1/4 inch seam allowance throughout. Second, backstitch at the beginning and end of every seam. Third, don’t skip the pressing. Pressing is how you get nice professional results with anything, so don’t ignore this step. Press every seam you sew.
