Biru Small Backpack FREE sewing pattern (+ video)
This is the Biru Small Backpack FREE sewing pattern from the designer Yoan Sewing Studio. The Biru Backpack is available in two sizes, and the designer has generously made the small size backpack a free pattern (with video). The large size can be purchased if you want to make that one too, but that’s completely optional.
These adorable Biru backpacks are perfect for your everyday adventures, travel, day trip, etc.
The Biru Backpack has the following features:-
- One external zipper pocket,
- Two external side pockets,
- A zipper closure,
- An adjustable strap,
- One internal zipper pocket,
- Two internal slip pockets,
- One internal large pocket compartment (for the large version this pocket can hold a 13″ laptop).
Finished backpack measurements:
Small = approximately 9½” (24 cm) wide by 12″ (30.5 cm) high by 3¾” (9.5 cm) deep.
Large = approximately 10½” (26.7 cm) wide by 13½” (34.5 cm) high by 4¾” (12 cm) deep.

What’s needed to make a Biru Small Backpack:-
- Thicker fabric such as canvas fabric is recommended for the exterior & accent fabric. Denim, heavier linen, and home fabric will also work for this project.
- For the interior of the backpack you may use lighter weight fabric such as cotton quilting fabric. You may also try nylon ripstop fabric if you want the interior of your backpack to be water resistant.
- Fusible Foam Stabilizer is used in this project to add structure to the back, bottom, and the padded pocket compartment of this backpack. Look for foam stabilizer that is designed specifically for bag making such as those made by bosal or flexi foam.
- Fusible fleece is used for the straps for added comfort (optional).
- Double Pull Nylon Coil Purse Zipper at least 20″ long #4.5.
- Nylon coil purse zipper at least 8″ long #4.5.
- Two adjustable strap sliders 1″,
- Two rectangular rings 1″,
- All purpose nylon coil zipper (at least 8″ long),
- One set of button snap closure 12.5mm.
