The Tag-Along pattern is two patterns in one! This bag is perfect for the gym, hiking, festivals, craft fairs, and theme parks. Both styles are the perfect companion when you want to travel light and keep your bare necessities with you.

Style A = Water Bottle Version: allows you to keep your water bottle at your side wherever you go.

Style B = Purse Version: has an additional zipper pocket in the front flap closure over another slip pocket.

The PDF sewing pattern is a rather quick sew and perfect for a Confident Beginner-Intermediate sewist.

This pattern is domestic machine-friendly and can be sewn in all quilting cotton or a combination of quilt cotton, vinyl, or cork.

What's needed to make a Tag-Along Bag:

  • Exterior fabric = 1/2 yard (50 cm) approximately plus 3" (8 cm) wide by 55" (140 cm) long for the crossbody strap,
  • Lining fabric = 1/2 yard (50 cm) approximately,
  • Interfacing = 1 yard (100 cm) approximately of lightweight woven fusible interfacing (Sew Woven or Pellon ShapeFlex SF101) * Woven interfacing not required when using vinyl/cork/waterproof canvas,
  • Stabilizer = 1/4 yard (23 cm) approximately of lightweight stabilizer (Decovil Light or 2 Layers of Sew Fuse Plus),
  • Hardware and supplies =
  • Style A and B =
  • 12" (31 cm) #5 zipper tape for zipper panel and (1-2 Zipper Pulls),
  • Two 3/4" (19 mm) Swivel Snap Hooks,
  • One 3/4" (19 mm) Strap Slider,
  • One to two of 3/4" (19 mm) Strap Ends (optional),
  • Eight to ten Rivets (or Chicago Screws),
  • 6-7mm for thinner fabrics or
  • 8-9mm for thicker fabrics.
  • 60" (152.5 cm) approximately by 1/2" (13 mm) wide of Double Fold Bias Binding if not making your own,
  • 2" (64 cm) Drawstring Cord (or shoelaces, ribbon, leather lacing, clothesline, paracord, twill tape) if not making your own,
  • Style A =
  • Two 3/4" (19 mm) D-Rings,
  • One Cord Lock,
  • Style B =
  • Two 1" (25 mm) D-Rings,
  • 5 1/4" (13 cm) #5 or #3 zipper tape for front exterior zipper pocket and (one Zipper Pull),
  • One Magnetic Snap,
  • Bag Tag (optional),
  • Other supplies = Rotary cutter or scissors, Double-sided tape, Grid Ruler, Cutting Mat, Duct tape for protecting magnetic snap prongs, Erasable Fabric Pen, Fray Check (optional for magnetic snap cuts). and Rivet setter tool or rivet press,
  • A sewing machine.
