Essex Wallet pattern

We really like this designer, the lovely Svetlana Sotak, and over the years we have posted many of her patterns. Now we’re delighted to have her as one of the featured designers in our own pattern store. Here is one of her most popular sewing patterns for a super handy wallet that she calls the Essex Wallet. Now’s your chance to create your own one of a kind Essex Wallet.

We love the medium size, not too big, not too small. Fits nicely in the hand and has room for everything you need. Unfussy on the outside, the zipper section is easy to access, then pop the snap to access cards and notes kept securely inside.

The Essex Wallet has the following features:

  • A zippered coin area,
  • Eight card slots,
  • space for notes or paperwork
  • A closure tab.

Sizing info:
When you have finished making the Essex Wallet it will measure approximately 5½” tall by 4″ wide when closed.

What you will need to make the Essex Wallet:

  • One fat eighth of fabric measures 9” by 21” for the main panels and closure tab,
  • ½ yard of fabric for the lining and card pockets,
  • ½ yard of SF101 interfacing or other medium weight fusible interfacing of your choice or fusible fleece,
  • One 5” metal or nylon zipper,
  • One size 12 heavy-duty snap. You can use a different snap if preferred,
  • One zipper pull (optional),
  • Basic sewing supplies,
  • A sewing machine.

The designer recommends using non-directional print for the lining and pockets to be able to cut your pockets in one continuous length. If, however, you choose to go with a directional print you will need to piece your pocket panels using two separate strips of fabric.

Please note, this is a MEASURE AND CUT PATTERN meaning all pattern pieces are cut using a cutting mat, rotary cutter, and ruler. No templates are needed to make this pouch.
